AlamoPA Mailing List: Update on Joe Cook.

Hi, it’s me again. 

Well, we finally got some good news today.  The Physical Therapist came in this

morning at 9:00. He got Joe to start using a walker, got him to stand up with a walker from his chair,

then Joe ended up taking some steps, went about 5 ft.

That is the first time Joe has took a step at all. Then at 11:00, the Occupational Therapist came in and

she got him to stand up with a walker from his bed and got him to pivet himself around and set in the

chair.  He done really good for laying in bed for 3 ½ weeks.

About noon, the Social Worker came in, and told us she had some good news, they will be moving him

up to the 7^th. floor, which is Rehab tomorrow forenoon. So we are really excited.

Then at 2:00, Sarah, the head Physical Therapist came in to work with him. She got him to stand up

from his chair with a walker, and start walking, he ended up walking across the room which is about 12 ft.,

then she sat him down in his chair and pulled him back to the other side. She told him to rest a couple of

minutes, then ask him if he wanted to get up and walk again, so he did and walked across the room

again.  That was a shock to all of us, because today is the first time, he has taken a step.

So we are really excited that he can go up to Rehab.  Now we are praying real hard that he gets

his energy and his legs strengthen up. They figure 2 weeks for Rehab, so he will have to work hard.

I feel like I have had a big burden lifted off of shoulders.
