Update on Joe Cook.

Hi Everybody.  Well, this week has been a little upsetting, 3 weeks ago today Joe broke his hip, and of course

with all the complications he has had, like I said, if anything could go wrong, it has went wrong for Joe.

I ask the nurses if they could be getting him up and sitting him in a chair some, instead of laying in bed all the time,

So Monday they started getting him up and sitting him in a chair to eat his meals. That has helped him, and

they would only come in once a day and exercise his legs, other than getting him up to eat.

We have found out that he can not go to any other rehab center, even the nursing homes for rehab, because he is on Peritoneal Dialysis, which is home dialysis, and he has to be qualified to go up to Mercy Hospital rehab. So I have let the nurses how upset I was because they really aren’t doing the kind of therapy he needs to get up and walk. He has not even walked yet, and after laying 20 days in bed, even his good leg is weak. So finally, the word got passed around how upset I was, they should have been getting him up to eat last week. So finally Wed. the head physical therapy nurse, Sarah come in and talk to me, because like I said we have been told that he has no other rehab place to go, unless he goes back on Hemo dialysis, which he done for 3 years before home dialysis. There is no way he would even think of doing that, he would say just let me die.  So she said, she will get therapy set up for him twice a day from now on, and she said he will only have a couple of different therapist, so he will get to know them and they will get to know him.  She told me they will work with him and get him qualified to go to their rehab.  So today, Sarah came in this morning and work with him about 50 minutes, and he done real good, and then Kathy came in this afternoon and done therapy with him.  They said he really done good, for his first 2 sessions.  I just told Sarah, that we are at Mercy Hospital and we are at their mercy, because we have not place

else to go.   So, I can rest a little easier now, that they have decided to work with him, and get him up and walking

and be qualified to go up to their rehab.  So, hopefully he will get his legs strengthen up, and can get to walking

shortly.  So, I just keep praying that he will keep getting stronger real fast, it sure will be great to see him walking

again.

Again, I want to thank all of our Paradise family for all your prayers, cards, phone calls, etc. That really means a lot to both of us.

God Bless you all,  Clara
