Dear Ones –

I know I have not written much lately – most of you know I am digitally challenged- but I wanted you to be aware of what is happening in our lives.

The week of October 12, we did our normal activities – church on Sunday, dance on Monday (and he danced very well (the past few months Bill has danced much better than he walked. Tuesday through Friday  daily we walked one time around Eastgate Mall.  For that walk, Bill used a walker – for everything else, he used a cane.  We ate out several times and on Thursday he saw his primary care doctor who found no problems.  Friday night he was fine when he went to bed.  He called me Saturday morning with difficulty walking to the bathroom .  He got in there so  I thought he was ok and I went back to bed.  He called again and told me to get help.  I called 911 and we went to Parkridge Hospital.  They did  many tests on that poor man – 3 on his brain - but the only thing that they found was that he had been having little strokes for a long time – and I will admit I was seeing more signs of dementia, but not  a major stroke.  He has pneumonia, but still nothing to cause him to be helpless as he is.  He absolutely refuses food and in his living will he specified no feeding tube.  He had two of those and they made him totally miserable.  Friday evening he was released to Life Care of East Ridge.  I thank God for that – we love the staff there.

I want you to know that he is now under hospice and is receiving comfort care.  Unless we have another miracle – and we know he had several of those- Bill will be meeting the Lord soon.  He was being mostly unresponsive until he heard the preacher’s voice last night.    Then he said, “I love you, boy.”

God bless you all.  Love,

Jacque Benderman
