3/5/12 (Florida): Dick Fisher has been diagnosed with cancer. (from Karen)

 

Dick has been diagnosed with inoperable (stage 4) pancreatic cancer. We

are going to Moffitt Cancer center, an NCI recognized facility, in Tampa

Florida. There is a chemo treatment which may slow down the cancer and

give Dick some pain relief and a few more weeks/months of life. It is

the standard pancreatic cancer drug and can be administered anywhere. We

are currently in Florida. We are hoping to get on top of the pain Dick

is experiencing, fly to Washington (state) where our daughter and Dick's

brother & wife live, and decide if treatment is a viable option once we

are there. Our son and family who live in Bryan, TX will be here during

their spring break.

 

Life is what happens to us while we are making other plans. We are

taking each day one at a time and trying to process all this. Dick is

still working on the 4th edition of the Forest Soils textbook and

working on dance figures for Roundalab. We are blessed with our square

and round dance friends, as well as the many people who have worked with

Dick through his graduate student days and in his professional life.
