Dick Fisher died of pancreatic cancer early Saturday morning, May 5, after having been moved into hospice care about a week earlier.  Dick had received initial care in Tampa, Florida to help diminish the pain and had then been flown by Angel Flight (or a similar service) to Washington state where the Fishers’ daughter and Dick’s brother and sister-in-law live.  The Fishers’ son and family (from Bryan, TX) were going to join them in Washington if they could.

Karen and Dick taught round dancing in Utah then Houston and Livingston Texas.  Dick and Karen took Jo Lynn and I under their wing and brought us to a higher level of dancing than we ever expected.  Later they taught in Colorado and in San Benito, TX.  Soon after they traveled to Florida and stayed (and taught) there until Dick was diagnosed with cancer.  Dick and Karen had been teaching round dancing for over 25 years.  Dick’s 71st birthday would have been next Tuesday.

I do not know at this time of any services planned.  I will post any updates that I learn of on the Bulletin Board at www.kepsweb.com.  Dick and Karen maintained a web site at http://www.fisherdance.com/index.htm until recently.

Dick was undoubtedly one of the most influential men in my life.  Our hearts go out to Karen and the rest of Dick’s family in their time of loss.  She shared Dick’s email address at rffisher [at] tamu.edu if you would like to send a condolence.  Her permanent mailing address is 153 Rainbow Drive, PMB 5369, Livingston, TX 77399.
