Hi: In case you haven't received an update on
Hoyit, I thought I would let you know. He went thru the surgery yesterday
just fine. The surgery took 5 hours and we were there with Del and so was
Joe & Nancy Hollis. Hoyit's sister and husband came in later in the
day to set with us. They gave Hoyit 4 units of blood before the
surgery started yesterday morning. His blood count was low. The
doctors cleaned the top of his skull, then removed a muscle from under his left
shoulder blade and transplanted it on top of his head, also connected
small veins together so there would be blood circulation to those new
tissues. They took skin from his back left bottom cheek and back of his
upper thigh to graft on top. When the main doctor came out to talk
with Del after the surgery was finished, he said the next 2 to 3 days is the
most critical. Pray that blood clots will not form in the new tissue and
block the flow of blood to it. Thus it dies and it would mean more
surgery. Del just called me this afternoon (Friday) to say that he
is still in critical care unit at M.D. Anderson. He did eat a little jello
this morning, but had been sick at his stomach. She said his doctor had been in
twice to see him and that they are running dopler tests every 2 hours to check
for blood clots in that area. Hoyit has not set up yet, but she said the
doctor ordered them to try sitting him up on the side of the bed
today. He (may) be transfered to a room this evening or
tomorrow. Please continue to keep him in your prayers and this period is
so critical for him. He has some drains in him. The doctors took all
the muscles and skin from his left side, so he will only be able to lay on his
right side for quite awhile. He will be in the hospital (if all goes well)
for 7 to 10 days. Their motorhome is parked at an RV park about 1
mile from the medical center and they have shuttles from the RV park to
M.D. Anderson. So when Hoyit is
better, Del will be staying at night at the motorhome. Last night they let
her stay in the critical care unit with him. She cannot use her cell phone
in there and keeps it turned off. Please pass this info on to others that you
know round dance with them. Jo Young ======================================== Thanks Carol Dexter for forwarding to me. Regards, Bob Heiser W7IKT web site fly-web.us |
