Attached is an idea about handing out information about St. Baldrick when
you hand out candy. Click on "these cards" and print a few if you
wish. You may also wish to write the date of our St. Baldricks Event on
the back. The date is February 22, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Texas Trails RV
resort.
Thanks
Wayne

bald-o-ween Halloween is
just around the corner. Here's a creative way for you and your
kids to have fun while helping kids with
cancer:
Print and distribute these cards
to trick-or-treaters
who stop by your house so that you can give candy while
raising awareness for kids with cancer! Then, email SBInfo [at] StBaldricks.org and
let us know how it went.
event registration opens next
week! Early next
week, volunteer event organizers will start adding their events to
the St. Baldrick's website. If you're interested in organizing
an event, now's the time to get started! Events that were
registered more than 90 days before the event date
raised triple the donations of those
registered 31-60 days before their event, and six times
the donations of those events registered less than 31
days before their event?! Contact Corinne [at] StBaldricks.org to
find out more!
future
interrupted In high
school, Lenka Ilcisin was a volunteer at Emanuel Children's Cancer
Clinic. With her acceptance to Princeton University she had plans to
become a pediatric oncologist. Cancer interrupted those
plans. Less than a month after beginning her freshman
year of college, she was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, went
home to Beaverton, OR for treatment and became a patient in the same
hospital where she had spent time at the bedside of other children.
Though Lenka wasn't diagnosed until the fall of 2007, she can
clearly recall the first symptoms. "I can trace my tumor back to
October 2006," Lenka said. "By the time track season hit, I
was getting sick a lot and unable to run the 800 (meter run) because
I was too slow. I figured I was just too tired." Click here to read

the 2008 St. Baldrick's event in Portland, OR)
GoodSearch What if St.
Baldrick's earned a penny every time you searched the
Internet? Or how about if a percentage of every online
purchase you made went to support childhood cancer research?
Well, now it can!
GoodSearch.com is a search engine that donates
half its advertising revenue, about a penny per search, to the
charities it designates. Just enter St. Baldrick's as the
charity you support then use it just as you would any search engine
and watch the donations add up!
childhood cancer term of the month Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma
(NHL), the disease suffered by Lenka
Ilcisin, accounts for approximately 7% of all childhood cancers and
is found in twice as many boys as girls. NHL is the general
term for cancers that start in the lymph cells, part of the body's
immune system.
