EAA493 Mailing List: Now ready for Young Eagles flights

I finished the installation of the overhauled engine and annual inspection. On January 22, 2019 I flew the first hour test flight and break in procedure for the four new Lycoming cylinder kits. I have nine hours on the break in of the engine now. The engine is running strong and there are no leaks.

I think it is safe to commence Young Eagle flights at this point. I will bring applications to the next EAA Chapter 493 meeting next Tuesday, February 19th. If you are interested in a Young Eagle flight in the near future we can schedule a flight at the next meeting or you can call me at 655-4646 to schedule a flight. The airplane has space for three passengers per flight so you are welcome to invite friends or family members along to fill the airplane.

If other EAA Chapter 493 members would like to participate in Young Eagle flights, you must:

• Be an EAA member.
• Complete the EAA Youth Protection Program, which includes a short training session and background check.
• Have a valid airman’s certificate (sport pilot or greater).
• Possess a current medical certificate or BasicMed (if applicable). 
• Be current to carry passengers in the aircraft you plan to use.
• Have a current biennial flight review.
• Conduct flights in an aircraft that is in airworthy condition.
• Have Aircraft Passenger Liability Insurance for the aircraft used (owned, rented, or borrowed).
• Adhere to all applicable Federal Aviation Regulations.
• Complete a Young Eagles registration form before the flight, signed by you and a parent or legal guardian
