As much as I like the idea of supporting aviation, I also think that we should not push the budget limit that hard.  We are a small organization and our membership has fluctuated quite a bit in the past several years.  My vote would be to keep the annual $500 scholarship.

I think we need to hear from Dave Dierker, our treasurer, what our expenses have been for the last two or three years. We no longer mail the newsletter. I think our main expenses are chapter renewal fees to Oshkosh, the scholarship, the Christmas party and other expenses like flowers. We have also helped pay for memorials in the past and one in the future, Johnny Williams. It would take 50 members paying $20 each just to cover a yearly scholarship of one thousand dollars.
For a balanced budget, I think our expenses have been about $330 for national dues and $500 for the scholarship. If we keep the yearly dues at $20 per member it would take 42 member's dues to cover the $830 in basic expenses. If our membership is about 42 then we seem to have everything in balance.
Once we know the current membership count and total expenses we can decide how to proceed.

I agree with Bob 100 percent!

I was club treasurer at a time when there was not enough in the till to buy stamps to send out the newsletter.

Anyone that wants to add to the club scholarship is free to do so, on a purely individual basis.
