Don,
I do not think advancing the fund to $1,000 is appropriate. Leave the fund
at $500 for 2014 and then provide a fund for $500 for 2015 for Kyle for
1(one)year. I do not agree that we need to provide something that our
chapter can sustain. When we chartered our chapter we were advised to
maintain a good balance in our treasure. We have had several chapters go
under because of this type of activity. This is not to be an objection of a
limited thing but to be very careful of what we do

Regarding the tabled motion for scholarship funds from the June meeting:
I have talked to Pierce Marschall at length since the last meeting. He has
been uncomfortable applying for his scholarship funds since he feels there
are other pilots who may need the funds more than he does. I assured him
that there will always be people with needs lesser and greater than his. But
it was the decision of the chapter that he was the person we wanted to
support last year and he should abide by the chapter's wisdom in picking him
for the scholarship. He has sent to our treasurer, Dave Dierker, a receipt
for ground school in Ft. Worth at American Flyers for an amount above $500.
Therefore, the scholarship funds from last year have been applied for and
are no longer available. 

I have not heard what our balance is after paying last year's scholarship,
but we have so few expenses I think we could afford to increase the
scholarship to $1000 for 2015. The additional $500 would amount to less than
$17 from each of us based on a membership of thirty people.

seconded at the June meeting to present the scholarship funds to Kyle
Spinks.  The motion was tabled so we could send the attached information to
all EAA493 members.  This should be and old business item at the July
meeting.

I would like to cast my vote to present both this year's scholarship funds
and last years scholarship funds to Kyle Spinks for his pursuit of an
Aerospace Engineering Degree at Texas A & M. Kyle is a very impressive young
man. And, an Eagle Scout to boot,not to mention George and Martha Spinks's
oldest grandson. Thanks you for being EAA 493's President. Gerry
