We have lost another pilot and Young Eagle during a Young Eagles Rally near Buffalo, New York. A Cessna 172 and a Searey collided in midair last Saturday. The Searey pilot landed successfully in a wooded area. The collision occurred about two miles southeast from the Buffalo Lancaster Regional Airport with at least one of the airplanes reportedly entering the pattern. Midair collisions are very rare, but when they happen it is most likely in the traffic pattern of an uncontrolled airport. Be extra vigilant when approaching and departing a fly in such as the upcoming Ranger Fly In.
