I have replied to Kristy Busse in the following letter that there appears to be enough support in our chapter to sponsor the Ford Tri-Motor. November could be an ideal time to have this event if we are lucky enough to have mild weather that weekend. I'm excited by the response of our members and I think there is a good chance we can be your next stop after Georgetown, Texas. The Collings Foundation brought their B-24, B-17, and P-51 to San Angelo earlier this year after a stop in Georgetown, and I heard that they gave many more rides here than they did in Georgetown. I took pictures of several WWII veterans in front of the airplane they flew in the war. There may not be the same reaction to the flying Ford, but airline service began in San Angelo around 1930, so we have the link to that vintage, if not specifically the Ford. I still need to approach several possibilities for hangar space. I imagine that a hangar will be arranged by Monday. The local Ford dealer is huge, so I will approach them on the day after Labor Day, along with the visitors and convention bureau and the airport board. I was wondering how many crew travel with the Ford and if they were open to staying in the homes of EAA members? We can furnish some first class accommodations that are nicer than the rooms available in local hotels. There is an oil boom going on in the area and motel rooms are at a premium. The usual $100 room goes for $200 or more. We have seven motels currently being built by all the major chains but they won't be ready for a few more months.
