I'm in, and would be happy to have either Ted Conrad or Johnny Williams as a co-pilot if either is interested!

I figured that if we have a number of airplanes, we would need to do a "in trail" overpass, rather than a formation.  But I am game for a formation.  Possibly a formation, followed by "in trail" airplanes.  And my plane will match well with yours speedwise, Don T..  I know Gerry Hatch and Fred Jones are also in.  Also Joe C.  Not sure of who else.  Some names that come to mind are Mike Plecenik, Ted Reed, Art Mcnamara, Omer Price, maybe Larry LaBeau.   I am sure I am missing some others with planes who knew Leon or might want to honor his memory and contributions..

Hopefully additional EAA 493 members as well.  Leon was not active in the past couple of years, either at Ducote or EAA, but was a major part of the aviation community before he quit flying.  We all owe him, in my book.

Also, there may well be others that don't have wings that would like to ride along.  Apparently there is not going to be much of a ground ceremony, so what better way to pay tribute?  Plus the family even suggested this as an option.

If anyone is interested in flying, or wants a ride, please sing out.   I suggest all flyers plan on being on the ground at Ducote air park as a convienent meeting place, no later than 2:30 pm on Thursday.   Weather is forecast to be bright and clear, at least as of now.

I think I could hold on a wing in a V formation at 115 mph as long as we made gentle turns.  I have managed to do so in the past.  I have asked Ted Conrad to help in formation flights before, so he would be a possibility to fly with someone and help us hold formation.  Al Elliott is certainly experienced in formation flying, but again, he doesn't currently own an airplane and would need to fly with someone, is he is available.  He may have already moved away.
I am volunteering my airplane and myself to attempt this fly over of Leon's funeral.
Who else is in?  We need to get out and practice together.  I would like to see the missing man formation if we can get four airplanes.

Hi All,

I was talking to Nancy York last evening and she was wondering if I thought it would be a good idea to have a fly-over during Leon's service which is set for Thursday at 3pm at a still unknown cemetery. A the moment, it is not a confirmed plan. However, I would like to find out what interest there might be in being part of a fly over. If there is a small group (2-3 planes) we may try a formation but a larger group would be better planned as flying in trail. As I said, at the moment, it is just an idea that is being put forward for discussion and comment.

When we moved to the ranch from Ducote, a fairly large group of Ducote pilots did a fly over of my hanger which was under construction. I was very moved by the effort and I know that Nancy and family would be also.
