Dance Friends,

Cancer continues to take the lives of our family members and friends. This will be the 5th year that Carol and I have been volunteer organizers for a Rio Grande Valley St Baldricks Foundation Head Shaving event to raise funds for research into cures and better treatments for Childhood Cancer.  Childhood Cancer research is underfunded by the government, only getting 4% of federal funds.  Research has made a big difference raising the overall survival rate for Childhood Cancer from 5% in the 1950’s to 78% today.

In the past 4 years, valley head shaving events have raised over $80,000.00 for St. Baldricks Foundation, a 501 C3 charity.  Vannie E. Cook Clinic in McAllen treats valley children with cancer.  They have received over $180,000.00 in grants from St. Baldricks Foundation and now have a research nurse on their staff.  Doctors and staff from Vannie E. Cook will be shaving again this year.  St. Baldricks has also given grants to St. Jude, M. D. Anderson and other well known medical research teams.  82% of the money donated to St. Baldricks goes out in grants.

How can you help?

1.  Come watch hair fly.  Attend our head shaving event which will be held at the Pharr Civic Center on March 10, 2013 at 2:00 PM.  Gerry and Eloise Rutherford and the Musical Memories will start the event off with music starting around 1:30 PM.  They have played at the past four events.  Oscar Adame, Channel 5 News anchor, will again be our MC.

2.  Donate an item for the raffle or auction and/or buy one at the event.

3.  Sponsor me, I will be shaving this year in memory of my sister-in-law, Shirley.  You may sponsor me with a check made out to the St Baldricks Foundation, cash or donate on line by credit card by going to:

4. Or Sponsor Wayne Chapman, he will be shaving for the 5th time this year:
