Subject: FW: Update on Sue Lane's Condition Update on Sue?s
Condition June 29, 2010: Since learning of her
pancreatic/ampullary cancer in early January, Sue has continued to look good and
to have a good attitude and the treatments have continued to push back the
tumors. During six cycles of
Xelox chemotherapy, her tumor markers and CT scans have indicated a significant
reduction in the growth of cancer. During this time she has experienced
and conquered most side effects and remains in relatively good health, with a
weakened condition being the most persistent, due to low red blood
cells. But now, chemotherapy
appears to be less effective! Recent tests at MD Anderson show a dramatic
rise in tumor markers and CT Scans show a worsened cancer
condition. These findings are a
shock to Sue and her family; everything seemed to be going in the right
direction. Sue and Jack just
returned from a 10-day trip to Yellowstone and the Teton mountains. Sue
had a great time with no ill effects. They drove 700 miles, seeing all
kinds of wonderful nature scenes and events. (DVD slide shows are available;
just ask). During the past few
weeks Sue has experienced some blood infection which was controlled with
medication. Also she complains occasionally of mild pain in her upper
abdomen. And she has had the continual ?icky? feeling while actually taking
chemotherapy drugs. Other than that, she
appears to be completely normal. The MDA doctor said she looks the same
now as when he first saw her in January. He said the tumors
are ?resistant to treatment?. And he suggested that she stop taking the current
chemo drugs. He recommended
changing to a different chemo therapy. He offered two
alternatives: 1. Gemzar and
Irinotecan (preferred). 2. Zelox and
Irinotecan (same as before plus new drug). Plans are being
formulated at Atlanta Cancer Center to begin this new treatment and she will go
back to MDA in August. Sue?s attitude is
?one day at a time? and she would love to hear from you. She needs your
prayers now even more than ever! Thanks,
Jack
