We hope you'll forgive this interruption while we take a small part
of your
Time to make an announcement. We are taking this
opportunity to announce
Our retirement from Round Dancing. The primary factor
which forced us to
Make this decision centers around our full-time
jobs. Neither one of us is
Retired, and trying to balance a work life, a Round Dance life, and
a
Personal life has become increasing difficult during recent
years. As a
Result, our personal lives have suffered tremendously. Our
daytime
Professions have become more and more demanding over the
years. I (Ron) can
No longer fulfill my professional obligations by working a 9 to 5
work day.
The demands of my job have increased tremendously, and the need to
leave
Work by 5 o'clock in order to get to our classes and ballroom
lessons,
Causes tremendous stress. It has become obvious to me that
in order to
Excel in my daytime profession, I need to be able to devote more time
to my
Company. The stress of our daytime jobs, added to the
stress of preparing
Dance teaches and choreographing new dances, has gotten to a point
where we
Have been unable to cope. That makes it obvious that we
absolutely have to
Cut back somewhere. We have cut back in many areas over
the past few years,
Specifically by giving up one of our three dance classes, reducing
the
Number of private lessons that we take, giving up our square dance
clubs,
And retiring from chairmanship of Roundalab's Phase VI Round of the
Quarter
Committee. Unfortunately, we absolutely must do more in
order to find some
Balance in our lives. We have many things that we have had
to forego in our
Personal lives, and we are looking forward to enjoying some of
them.
Additionally, we hope to have grandchildren in the next several
years, and
We want so badly to have a life that can include as much time with
them as
Possible.
We have considered the possibility of giving up our local classes
and
Keeping involved in the National Round Dance
scene. Alternatively, we
Considered keeping our local classes and giving up the National
scene.
However, both options present challenges that don't adequately reduce
the
Stress levels. We have unfortunately found it impossible
to do a good job
In two professions at the same time. And retirement from
our daytime jobs
Is still a number of years away.
We want to be very clear that we have not lost our love of the
activity. We
Love to dance. Ron loves to cue. And we
absolutely love to teach. We have
Been involved in it for a very long time (it will be 40 years for Ron
next
Year). We have made so many wonderful friends over the
years, and will
Definitely miss spending time with all of you. We have
incredible memories
From this activity, and we cherish them. We are so happy
to have been a big
Part Round Dancing, and we leave with a sense of so much
accomplishment and
So much pleasure from all of these past years.
Our plans are to continue our classes and other obligations through
this
Year, with the last event being the Cactus Capers in Mesa, Arizona
next
January. We do hope to continue to be involved in the
activity in a limited
Capacity, by continuing to run our Roundarama weekends in April and
October
Of each year. We also hope to continue our current
involvement in the
Roundarama Institute at Purdue University each
August. Additionally, after
Some time has passed next year, we hope to come back to Round Dancing
as
Dancers to some limited extent, where we can still enjoy
the activity and
The friendships, without the pressures that we currently have.
Thank you for your support over the years and for your
friendship. We will
Miss seeing all of you on a regular, or at least semi-regular
basis. We
Hope that you understand the reasons for our retirement, and that you
can
Support our decision. We definitely look forward to
returning when we can.
