I just happened to hear a part of Spitfire: The People’s Plane on 90.1 FM this morning at 6:30. It is available as a podcast from the BBC at bbc.co.uk I found it just by searching the internet for Spitfire the people’s plane. In 1940 you could buy a Spitfire for 5,000 pounds, but the airplane went to the Royal Air Force as a donation, instead of your hangar. People from all over the world donated money to build Spitfires. When the Super Marine factory was bombed the production was dispersed to garages and workshops capable of making aircraft parts. The focus of the podcast is the people involved with building Spitfires and their experiences during the war. The people who built the Spitfire remind me of EAA builders. Don T.
