Please check this corrected edition of the minutes for mistakes: September 2019 Minutes of EAA Chapter 493 Corrected Bob Reece opened the meeting at 7 P.M. by apologizing for sleeping through the last meeting. Bob introduced Mark and Shelly Lerch, who were attending tonight as his guests. Mark Lerch has had the flying bug since childhood. Please be sure to welcome Mark and Shelly as our newest members. They decided to join our chapter tonight. Also, Johnny Claflin was visiting again and indicated he would be joining our chapter. Doug O’Conner has a new neighbor who will be accessing his runway using an Aeronca Champ. Doug hopes to bring his new neighbor to a future meeting. Bob Reece discussed his recollections of Oshkosh Airventure 2019. After prompting from Don Treadwell, Bob Reece informed the group that he had been awarded a large paver under the Brown Arch at Wittman Regional Airport commemorating his 50 years of volunteering at many EAA functions. Gerry Hatch reported that Nancy York is busy moving possessions from her parents’ home since it has sold. She hopes to attend next month. Tom DuFresne of Poor Boy Avionics (www.pbavion.com) gave a report on the current ADS-B mandate situation and the latest, smallest, lowest installation cost, ADS-B Out radio, now approved for installation in certified general aviation aircraft, the uAvioni✈️ Tail Beacon (uavionix.com). The extremely small ADS-B Out radio has many challenges facing it and is plagued with more glitches than most ADS-B Out radios because it only has an on/off control on the panel of the airplane; the placement of the transponder antenna is critical in relation to the tail-mounted radio/light beacon as it may not connect wirelessly with the transponder if the two antennas are too close together, and it does not work as well with older transponders. Programming is accomplished using an iPhone. The EAA Monthly Chapter Video Magazine for September 2019 was shown. The current balance of our account is $1276.07, including tonight’s membership dues from Mark & Shelly Lerch, smlerch2007 [at] gmail.com . They live at 10517 Runion Rd. , San Angelo, TX 76905 Meeting adjourned at 8:30 P.M. |
