EAA Chaper 493
Mathis Field Conference Room
April 16, 2019
Bob Reece opened the meeting at 7PM. There were 16 people attending tonight. The minutes were approved by acclimation. Treasurer’s Report: $1,706.07 is the current balance in our account. Tony Markum has paid his chapter dues in the last month.
We discussed our chapter scoring, as ranked in a letter to Ronal Lentz, dated March 5, 2019 from EAA headquarters.
Pat Nuytten and Tom Dufresne presented a program including a short video about Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast, known as ADS-B.
Some highlights from the program:
ADS-B Out is not required unless you fly in Class B, C, or above 10,000 feet MSL, starting January 1, 2020. There are currently over 500 ADS-B ground stations that transmit weather and traffic information to aircraft equipped with ADS-B In on the 978 MHz UAT, Universal Access Transceiver, frequency, which is only available in the United States below 18,000 feet. Tom Dufresne reported that you can’t taxi over 10 knots or you will activate ADS-B on the ground and appear on the government monitors. This is usually only important when applying for the $500 rebate. Part 25 certified aircraft cost much more to install ADS-B Out equipment. There were 35 aircraft flying over San Angelo yesterday using ADS-B Out.
The chapter discussed aircraft registration assistance offered for a fee. There are still questions about ADS-B that the FAA has not decided. The meeting was adjourned at 8:11PM.
Don Treadwell recorded the minutes as Don Smucker was out of town.
