Subject: [EAA493] Minutes on EAAChapter 493 March 2019 meeting
EAA Chapter 493 March 19, 2019 monthly meeting
Meeting started at 7:05pm in the Mathis Field Terminal meeting room.
Bob Reece opened with announcements.
Nancy York reported the current balance of $1706.07 in the chapter checking account.
Ron Lentz introduced the program for tonight. Cadets Charles and Conner Westphal, along with Col. Massey, presented a program about the Civil Air Patrol. A short video from the History Channel showing a typical training flight of the Civil Air Patrol was shown.
A PowerPoint presentation was given covering the history and current services covered by the CAP.
Cadets Charles and Conner Westphal gave a presentation about their activities in the CAP. Flight training is offered in various programs available to the cadets, from a few short flights to several hours of training to complete training to a private pilot’s license, which was first accomplished by a cadet from Texas. Leadership is emphasized in the CAP with the hope that cadets will continue in the program and ultimately join the Air Force, although they are not obligated as CAP cadets to join the military.
Our two presenting cadets from Oklahoma recently attended a course together in leadership training in Nacogdoches, Texas. One of the camps cadets may attend is aircraft marshaling during Airventure in Oshkosh. Model rocketry, marksmanship, formation drill, and flight training are among some of the many camps offered to cadets.
SanAngeloCap.org is the local internet connection.
Col. Massey closed the presentation with a question and answer session.
LeRoy Anderson pointed out that there are many other EAA Chapters giving to the EAA Ford Trimotor rides program, just like we did.
Meeting adjourned at 8pm.
I was told after the meeting that Anthony Marcum is renewing his membership to chapter 493.
