Washington, DC 20510Dear R Steve,
Thank you for contacting me regarding Air Traffic Control (ATC) reform. Input from fellow Texans significantly informs my decision-making and empowers me to better represent the state.
As you may know, the White House is proposing a new, non-government management entity to secure financing and plan for long-term innovative technologies which will directly address capacity issues of the current ATC system and provide better communications for pilots and controllers. With millions of Texans traveling by plane per year, this modernization is essential to improving quality of travel and providing more affordable and better travel options.
Modernization will bring about an independent, not-for-profit corporation to operate and modernize air traffic control services while ensuring these services are provided in rural and remote communities. Moving air traffic control functions into a federally chartered, not-for-profit, self-funding organization will protect it from the uncertainty of future political battles.
It's time that we allow American innovation in our nation's aviation sector to spur economic activity, increase safety, lower costs, and enable more travel options for consumers. I look forward to working with the Administration, and my colleagues in both the House and the Senate to advance the safety and efficiency of the ATC.
Thank you again for sharing your views with me. Please feel free to contact me in the future about any issue important to you or your family. It is an honor to serve you and the people of Texas.
For Liberty,
Senator Ted Cruz
