El Centro is closing its stores Friday. The mall has been purchased by a Houston conglom' and is all being torn down to the ground. The complex is now to be called Pharr Town Center.
Luby's has moved into a new building on the site already, as has a movie theater. There is a new place called Main Event Complex on the grounds containing gaming machines, bowling, food court, and bar that is doing very well, according to the news. Rumor has it Dick's Sporting Goods will be there also.
If you put "El Centro Mall" in your browser you should be able to see pictures of the proposed new buildings when complete. Something to watch for.
