Here's the latest news that is fit to print from cool, wet, and dreary Arnolds Park Iowa. I had a total hip replacement performed Monday morning, had opted for the Anterior approach which is less invasive and has (Usually) a much shorter recovery time than older procedures. I walked into the surgery suite about 11:30 am, at 3:30 pm I was in my hospital room, Karyn was there and I think I was fairly coherent at that time. They had figured on the procedure taking 1 1/2 hours so with figuring in some prep time before the actual start of surgery and some recovery time their estimate was pretty accurate. Around 5:30 that afternoon I took my first little walk with the new hip joint in place and a walker. After a fairly good nights rest or sleep the Dr came in and reported the procedure went well and I might go home that afternoon. Physical therapist came in and showed me a few exercises to do and how to use the walker properly, up and down stairs etc. Soon came a bunch of paperwork, a shower, a big noon meal, a few meds and directions on their use etc. Approximately 2pm Karyn and I were in the pickup heading home. Hardly 24 hours after the surgery. Everything is progressing well, I am totally amazed. Scheduled for a check up in two weeks and a determination at that point whether or not another check up will be needed.
We figure on getting down to Alamo the first part of Dec. Rick may have to raise the speed limit around the park to 15 mph since I doubt I'll be able to walk around at only 10 mph. Hope all is well with everyone and looking forward to seeing ya'll.
